Meet our new Guest Design Team member, Jana Fail!

With the holidays upon us and everyone taking a break from their scrapping, we decided to extend our guest design team position for two months, December and January. Again we received wonderful submissions and it always makes the choice a difficult one.

We are happy to announce that our new Guest Design Team member is Jana Fail.
Here is Jana's submission entry!

I would like to be the guest DT member because I love feeling creative. I enjoy taking the time to share my talent and style with others. I think the experience would enable me to create things in a more timely manner and I hope it would give me the opportunity to challenge myself creatively. I enjoy the time I spend with other forum members and love getting to know them. I would love to issue challenges to them and also create some fun games and other forum activities for RAK's, including some non-scrapbook related ones. I love getting to know other people and have found such a 'home" at KT Crafts and would love for everyone to feel the same way. I would love to see more people join us at KT but I do love the comfortable feel that I have experienced here as well as it's smaller size (some sites are just too huge.) I love the support everyone gives each other at KT and feel I could continue to give that support and help others reach their creative potential. I love all the DT members and would love to work with you all more closely. Thanks for this opportunity.

Jana has jumped right in and shown great initiative and inspired so many of us already!
Welcome, Jana! We are happy to have you as our December/January Guest Design Team Member.

December's Member Highlight!

This month our member highlight takes us north into Canada. Our Crafty Girl of the month is Candy, better known to us as Canzlynn98!

Candy shares a recent photo of herself and her scrapping inspiration, her son Austin, along with one of her favorite LOs.

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
I am 35 years old, I live in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. I grew up in a small town in Alberta called Taber. It's known as the Corn Capital of Canada. I then moved to Calgary, Alberta when I was 22. I lived there for 7 years and decided that big city living wasn't what I wanted for my son. So we moved back to Taber. Now we are here in Lethbridge. I am a mom. I have the most wonderful 10 year old son. Everything I do is for him. I don't know where I would be today If I didn't have him. I love photography and especially love that I can take my photos and turn them into something wonderful. I love to scrapbook and make cards.

2. What makes you tick? (do you have favorite snacks, tv shows, quirks, what excites you, etc.)
Here are a few of my favorites: I love Pepsi, Chocolate, Pizza, my favorite tv shows are: Dog the Bounty Hunter, Friends, CSI Miami. I also can't get enough scrapbooking paper. LOL!!!

3. How and when did you start scrapping?
I started scrapbooking 3 years ago. I only planned on doing one book. Well I can say that I have done about 10 now. My friend got me started and then I in turn got another friend "HOOKED" and it just kind of snowballed from there.

4. What is most inspiring to you where scrapbooking is concerned?
My photos. I find it really hard to scrapbook unless I have really good photos.

5. Do you sketch your ideas before you create them?
Not usually. I just kind of plan as I go.

6. What technique do you love, but have not tried yet?
I really haven't tried any techniques. I just like to do my own thing. Really I haven't figured out what that is yet.

7. What else has scrapbooking brought into your life other than capturing memories on paper?
I have met some of the most wonderful people by scrapbooking. It's so awesome when you can meet in a message board and make such good friends. I love how friends who also scrapbook are so supportive of your accomplishments and praise you for your hard work.

Thanks for sharing with us, Candy!

Holiday Memories

The countdown is on! There are only 19 days til Christmas! The holiday season is a special time of year for our family. It brings back so many wonderful memories of our own childhoods and of our children growing up. Now, they have families of their own and they are making their own holiday traditions.

Its a time of year for recording those memories to look back on in years to come. Don't forget to take that camera and have it ready wherever you are! Keep extra batteries nearby, because its inevitable that you will need them when you are least prepared! Make sure you get photos of special moments, but also important items that will be "special" in years to come.

Here are a few suggestions for photos....

That letter to Santa! How priceless will that be in years to come in that handwriting that only Santa can read? Or a picture of that plate of cookies for Santa and his elves?

Cutting down or buying that perfect tree. This is a huge tradition for us. First breakfast together at a local diner, and then off to fell the "tree of the year"! Ours is usually about 12 feet tall and requires a lot of ornaments to say the least. It is a day long affair. Topping it off with the "star" is another tradition. Our 2 daughters took turns every other year. And, we never had to worry about remembering who's turn it was. They NEVER FORGOT! Now that they are off on their own, we always reminisce about those moments when I place the star on top of our tree!

Hanging the stockings, your Christmas outfit for church, watching for Santa! There are too many to list!

Family and friends are a very importantl part of the holidays too. Make sure you take pictures of visitors and those you are visiting with.

There are lots of special moments that we will want to remember down the road....so make sure that you record yours with pictures. And, it will allow for many joyous scrapping moments too!

I do look forward to seeing Lisa on the boards and having her share her creativity with us!

Meet KT Crafty Member Kelly!!!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Let me introduce Kelly AKA Kelscraps_4_Two

Where do you live, what is it like, who is in your family? I live on the south side of Chicago. I love the city! the seasons can get a little mixed up at times but the only thing I'd trade chi Town for is the ocean. My little family consists of my son Denon, daugter Ella, and "sigificant other" Cory.

What one person would you like to meet in real life and why? OK this is super cheesey, but I would really like to sit and have a long conversation with Bono from U2. He just fascinates me with his talent and philanthropy work.

If you could have any job in this lifetime, what would it be? A Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse. I walked away from an almost complete BA in Psychology to start all over in a different school's nursing program. I start back in January, so my dream job will happen before I am 30!!!

What is your favorite time of year and why is it meaningful? I have always loved the fall. There's just something in the air that is so blissful and relaxing...Could be because fall marked the beginning of me being pregnant with my son and the end of being pregnant with my daughter

What is your favorite Scrapbooking company? This is a total toss up between Basic Grey and MME. I have loved them both since I started scrapping and could use those two manufacturers for the rest of my life if I had to!

Here is a recent Layout of Kelly's
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I am thrilled that Kelly has found our site! I love her style. It seems to be a timeless look with a little edge! Thanks Kelly for sharing your talent with us!!!

October's Member Highlight

Well, it's time once again to highlight one of our wonderful Crafty Girls! This month we have chosen Christine, better known to all of us as Kissyj. Christine hails from out west in the great state of Utah!

1. Tell us a little about your background and family.
I am a SAHM to 4 wonderful children. Joelle is 7, Liam is 5, Max is 3 and Dane is 16 months. We will be welcoming another baby boy, Lucas, to our family in November. We are so excited for him to be a part of our family! My husband, Jared, and I have been married for 10 years. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful, supportive husband! We all live together in Northern Utah, though we are natives of the Sacramento area in California.
2. What makes you tick? (do you have favorite snacks, tv shows, quirks, what excites you, etc.)
I love to read, I spend a lot of time with my nose in a book. With the kids and making time for scrapbooking, I usually do my reading as a wind down before going to sleep. One of my favorite food is Bruschetta; I just love that tomato-Basil combo..so yummy! As far as quirks go, you might call me a little chatty..LOL..ok a lot chatty!
3. How long have you been scrapbooking and please show us your first LO.
I started scrapbooking shortly after my oldest child was born. My aunt was a Creative Memories consultant, so she hooked me up with plenty of products to play with. I have scrapped off and on since then, but I have gotten most enthusiastic since moving to Utah! I can find so many great products here locally, and they are so much more inspiring than what you find in your general craft store. (I don’t know why I didn’t think of looking on line for supplies!!!)That was a year and a half ago and there’s no stopping me now.
4. What, or who, is most inspiring to you where scrapbooking is concerned?
I am not sure that I have one main inspiration. It really depends on my mood and what I am working on. But, what keeps me scrapbooking is the enthusiasm my children show when looking at their pages. My oldest son, Liam, just loves it when I finish a new page about him. He loves to show his album to anyone who will look. It is such an inspiration to keep going.
5. When inspiration strikes, what is the first thing you do to develop you LO idea?
Most of the time I start out with my photos and go from there. Sometimes I have “the perfect papers” and sometimes it takes more thought and searching through my stash to find just the right thing. Sometimes my inspiration will come from a new pack of paper, and I find the right pictures to go with it and work that direction. I have no hard and fast rule.
6. What technique do you love, but have not tried yet?
I love to see the layouts with paints, and goofy me, I haven’t bought any yet!
7. Do you think you will continue to scrapbook for years to come?
Totally! I will soon have 5 children, so I will never run out of topics to scrap! (Though finding the time might prove difficult!)

Thank you so much, Christine, for sharing your family and interests with us! We are so happy to have you as one of our Crafty Girls!

(The LO on the top left is the first one that Christine created. The one on the top right was her most recent when this interview took place)

Crafty Girl Vicki

OK.. we all know how wonderful Vicki is, but I just wanted us to get to know her a little better.
Hi, I'm Vicki Robertson, and I'm thrilled and honored to be part of the great design team for KT Crafts.

My wonderful husband, John, and I live in the beautiful Pocono Mountains in Northeast Pennsylvania. He totally supports my scrapbooking addiction and is always ready to peruse my latest creation. We have two beautiful daughters, a great SIL, future SIL, and two cherished grandsons.

I have been scrapbooking since my high school days (so, its been a long time), but scrapping the "new way" since 2000. I love the endless design possibilities and it is a gratifying creative outlet. My scrapbooking addiction has been a source of great joy for me and my family. Many of our most treasured moments are now on paper! I have made many new friends through my scrapbooking connections and thoroughly enjoy the opportunities it has presented me.

When I am not scrapping, I enjoy spending time with my family, doing genealogy research, and riding my Harley!
On a personal note: I had the fantastic opportunity to meet Vicki in person in Chicago. We actually had quite a bit of time alone and she is just the most wonderful down to earth person you will meet! I know we already know that from her participation on the message board, but wow.. she is one amazing lady! Our Design Team is so blessed to have her!!
Also this month Vicki is hosting some wonderful challenges on the site!
Check them out and participate if you get the chance!

Crafty Member Dawn (Duskie)

For the month of September we will get to know Crafty Member Dawn (Duskie)! Thanks you, Dawn, for letting us get to know you better!!

How did you get started in scrapping?
Well, I tried to get into scrapbooking right out of high school, but I just couldn't get into it. Then a year later I became a mom. I suddenly had all these pictures and had to do something with them! My first completed album was an 8x8 for my mom.

How long have you been scrapping?
I started about 12 years ago...but didn't really get serious about it till a couple years ago. So, I still kind of think of myself as a beginner!

What are your favorite things to scrap about?
Well, I like to scrap Caitie, but that's just because she's easy to do. Sports photos are great to. I find boys pages a lot harder to do and haven't really done a lot of those. I find Holiday ones difficult to.

What other hobbies do you have, other than scrapping?
I use to do a lot of plastic canvas things, but I haven't done that in a couple years now. I make candles for family and friends. They tell me what scent and color. Then there's the kids sports. I love to watch them play!

Can you tell us something about you that very few people know about you?
I love to sing! I have many Karaoke Cd's and use to go to the bar all the time for Karaoke night! I don't drink so I got tired of that quickly. Unfortunately there isn't anywhere else to do it, so it's been a long time since I've went.

I know that you have kids -- how many, what ages, anything else a proud mom wants to brag (oh, tell us) about them?
I have 2 children, and 1 soon to be step-son. Caitie is 8 with a birthday next week. She's in the 3rd grade and looks and acts just like me! She is a girly girl tom boy I tell ya! She will dress to the hilt to go play in the dirt with the boys. She plays soccer and softball right now. She wants to play basketball and volleyball when she's get old enough. Riley is 12 and in the 6th grade! He has lived the last couple years with his dad. He use to play baseball, but has decided to join the band instead. What a move that was! He can now play the trumpet, piano and some guitar and some harmonica. Dalton is 9 and in the 4th grade. He is my soon to be step-son who looks and acts like his dad! He is also very sporty. He plays baseball, soccer and basketball and will be signing up for football soon. He is also into wrestling and can name all the wrestlers and all the moves and can probably do a good bit of them!

OK, we know that you are planning your wedding -- when is the big day, what are your colors, how many attendants -- spill all the details that you want!!!
Oh yes...lol...the wedding! Well, let see.. The big day is July 26, 2008 at 1:00pm at the Church of Christ. I will have 2 bridesmaids (one will be Caitie) and a matron of honor. Colors will be red and white. The theme is hearts. I have my pattern for my dress which my mom will be making. I haven't pick bridesmaid dresses yet. When we leave the church we will be releasing balloons with our names on them. They will have slips of paper on them with our address and a note telling the finder to let us know where they found the balloon. We don't know for sure where the reception will be, but we do have a band who will DJ for most of the night and then they will jam later for the younger crowd who want to hang out. Party favors will be Cd's with our picture and songs from our wedding dances. We will also have M&M's with our names and dates. And maybe chocolates with our initials. We haven't decided on food yet. I need to get with my mothers for that. We are planning on going to Niagara Falls for the honeymoon.

Thanks for being in our Member Spotlight this month, Dawn!!!

Friday, August 24, 2007

Have you ever taken the time to think about all of the scrapbooking products that you use? How are they made? Especially the paper products. Where does all of the paper come from? And the chipboard that we all love? Trees. Yes, trees give us food, shelter, oxygen, and PAPER! We scrapbookers know how important trees are. "Trees Give Us Life" is the title of a recent LO that I made for a challenge. We had to choose 3 items that we did not normally use while scrapping. I chose, masking tape, corrugated cardboard, and cork. All of these products come from trees also, so they were perfect for the title I had chosen for my LO. I really spent a lot of time thinking about how trees really do give us life while creating my LO. Where would we be without them?

So, the next time you look at a tree, take a good look! Be thankful for them, take care of them, and plant a few! They will be the source of someone's happiness in the future. Without trees, none of us would be pursuing this passionate hobby of ours!

Crafty Member Elisabeth(Chinapainter)

For the month of August, I thought we should get to know more about Elisabeth(we know her as Chinapainter)on the board.

I asked her a few "get to know her better" type questions and here is what she had to say!

When and how did you begin scrapbooking?
I started scrapbooking a little over a year ago - determined I was NOT going to do it! Jessica/wintermoon took me to a crop in UmeƄ and I was totally stuck when I got back home. I bought my first supplies at the crop and started the day after. That was May 14th, 2006. I thank all the lovely ladies there who showed me a lot of tricks and gave me so much inspiration!

What are your must have items/products?
Things I cannot live without is my paper trimmer, pens, fluid chalk and of course papers. The products I use most besides these are chipboards, flowers, brads and the edge scraper. It's nice to have ribbons and buttons around, too.

Do you have a favorite scrapbooker?
I don't really have a favorite scrapbooker - I find inspiration everywhere on the internet, but I am very impressed by you girls on the design team. I surf around some and find bits here and there that I want to try.

How do you handle a creative block?
I've never had a creative block - but I lack in inspiration sometimes. At those times I change to do something else, like making jewelry or painting china. There I find inspiration for new color combos or a new doodling pattern, and the problem is solved.

What are your other hobbies besides scrapbooking?
Besides scrapbooking I like to make cards, jewelry, paint china and do cross-stitch embroidery. These hobbies may seem a bit away from each other - but they do intertwine! I take my color combos with me from scrapbooking to jewelry to chinapainting, and I also find interesting patterns on the papers to transfer to china. A small cross-stitch embroidery will look lovely on an LO, and I have also made some LO's on china painting. Product knowledge is another thing - I use a lot of my china painting supplies when scrapbooking!

What's your favorite flavor of coffee?(we know how much you love coffee!)
Coffee... A must for me! I don't function before my first cup in the morning. I like it strong, black and unsweetened. The favorite is called Inferno, but I can make it with almost all medium to dark roasts. As I need to slow down a bit on the caffeine, I have started to drink instant Cappuccino in the evenings, preferably with chocolate flavor. I even have coffee at parties, as a coffee-drink, it is lovely with a punch of Amaretto in it and topped with whipped cream and raw sugar!

Are you a morning or a night person?
Definitely a night person! I must have been an owl in an earlier life. Or maybe a cat. I like to scrap or do other crafts when the rest of the family goes to bed, the house is so quiet and I am not disturbed by anything. It happens that I still scrap when DH wakes up and goes to work...

Thank you Elisabeth for being our Crafty Member of the Month of August! it was so fun getting to know you even better!

Get to Know Crafty Girl LISA!!!!

Lisa is on of the talented ladies on our Design Team at KT Crafts. I have to say I am amazed at her talent and her wonderful personality is evident not just in her layouts, but in each and every post on the board! Lets get to know Lisa a little better this month!

Hi, my name is Lisa Dale. I live in Williamsburg, Virginia, with my husband Scott (my High School sweetheart) and our two daughters Allison and Olivia. We also have 2 cats, Tinker and Belle and a rat( believe me, she IS cute)Peaches. I am a stay at home, homeschooling mom. This is our 6th year homeschooling, and I truly love it!

I started scrapbooking in 1996. I attended a Creative Memories Party at my sister-in-law's house and loved the whole concept of scrapbooking. My style has definitely evolved from those early days, lol! My style today is clean and simple, focus on the photos. I love patterned paper, flowers, buttons and rubons - I can hardly do a layout without them!

I am honored to be a part of the KTCrafts design team, the message board is like a home away from home - such a warm, friendly community, and the gallery, so much inspiration!!
This month Lisa is working with our KIT
Check out some of her beautiful work!

Words have power!

The power of words.....have you ever thought about that? Have you ever counted the number of words that you use in a day? Have you ever really stopped to think about your choice of words every time you speak?

Words have tremendous power and make a daily impact on our lives. They give out energy and a message which creates a reaction in others.

Many of us use "one word" titles on our LOs. I know that I do. I like one word titles that tell the story in my LO. Some of my favorite words to use are love, cherish, and family.

Do you find yourself using "one word" titles when you scrap? If so, why?
Do you think about the impact that they will have on the LO?
"How do you choose your words"?

Check out this "topic of the week" on the message board!
